Operates extracorporeal circulation equipment to maintain a patientâ��s normal physiologic condition during surgery. Creates the necessary bypass circuit to support a patient with any number of abnormalities. Possesses the technical skills necessary to fully manage and monitor the patientâ��s physiologic condition. In addition, provides leadership to perfusion staff. Ensures appropriate scheduling and coverage within perfusion. Serves as the primary representative for perfusion in meetings and when serving on committees.
The Chief Perfusionist position will help drive strategic change and growth within the perfusion department and help serve as liaison between perfusion and the cardiac surgery program. As the surgery program continues to develop, the Chief will serve a key role in supporting, advising and implementing new technologies that align with the vision and development of the cardiac surgery program. Examples may include but are not limited to the development of ECMO support for procedures where warranted. The Chief Perfusionist should be a candidate who is forward thinking, aware of current and evidenced based practice and is an important part of a dynamic team that seeks to help continue to advance both the growth of the perfusion program as well as the strategic initiatives of the cardiac surgery program
Graduate from a school of perfusion technology, certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Able to read, write, and speak English.
Minimum of four years experience as a perfusionist and one year of supervisory experience or commensurate experience, either directly or delegated. Current experience with ECMO is strongly desired. Candidates who are willing to actively participate and learn new techniques (i.e. ECMO) will also be considered.

Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
